Ingredients:
14-oz package Kraft caramels
2/3 cup evaporated milk, divided
3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) butter
1 box chocolate cake mix (German chocolate, Devil's Food cake, etc.)
12-oz bag chocolate chips
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 11x7 baking dish (I use a rectangular 2.2-qt baking dish and it works beautifully.)
2. Unwrap all the caramels.
3. In a medium saucepan over low heat, add the caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Heat until melted and well combined.
4. While the caramel is melting, melt the butter in a large bowl. (I microwaved it for 1 minute.)
5. Add the boxed cake mix and remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Mix well to combine.
6. Spread half of the cake mixture into the greased baking dish. Bake for 10 minutes.
7. Pour melted caramels over partially-baked crust.
8. Sprinkle chocolate chip evenly over the caramel.
9. Spread remaining cake mixture over the chocolate chips (this is really difficult so I usually grease my hands and put little globs of cake on top and smear it down.)
10. Bake for an additional 30 minutes.
